The CHOOFAS Story
After years of trial and error emulating the flavours and tastes of smoked meats savoured on his many business trips to the US, Scott believed he had developed his unique Dark Dry Rub and Sauces to a stage where they would readily appeal to the discerning Australian palate. He then designed a commercial size smoker which would give him not only the capacity but the infinite temperature and smoke control required to ensure the continuity of flavours and tenderness for his beef, pork and chicken. In November 2015 CHOOFAS SMOKEHOUSE & BBQ in Tweed Heads was opened as a small takeaway.
Wanting to combine his passion for fishing, the freshest seafood and his love of American Style BBQ Meats, CHOOFAS SMOKEHOUSE & SEAFOOD 120 Marine Parade, Coolangatta was opened in June 2016 and the Tweed shop subsequently closed.
Bringing a totally new dining experience to Coolangatta and with the business expanding, in September 2019 CHOOFAS SMOKEHOUSE & SEAFOOD 150 Griffith Street was opened just around the corner. CHOOFAS was then able to offer guests all weather dining, table service along with Takeaway. With seating capacity for up to 140 guests there are also private dining areas available for functions and parties. After four years on the beachfront, in February 2020 CHOOFAS consolidated and the beachfront venue was closed.
Griffith Street has a much larger CHOOFAS HORN BAR area featuring more beers on tap, 100 Rums Bourbons & Whiskeys and loads more cocktails…!!!
